Benefits of Adversity
“Sweet are the uses of Adversity.” Shakespeare
Five hundred years ago that was true, it’s true today.
This whole mess we are in has some silver linings. People are rethinking financial plans; looking at Real Estate differently; re-purposing the stuff in the storage shed; re-assessing their values and their life’s purpose. Some folks are realizing they aren’t cut out for the work they thought they could do, and they are doing different things.
Two very good things are happening now: 1) We are finding better ways to take care of this planet. Suddenly recycling isn’t just some politically correct idea… it SAVES MONEY! Yay! So more people are looking at re-using and recycling. And 2) We are putting on our big kid panties and finally starting to act like grownups. Well, maybe not everyone, but a great many more than were a decade ago.
I notice that my financial planning is more careful. And I’m taking care of some things I had been putting off. Because some of my support team has gone on to do other things, I’ve had to take on their responsibilities for now. Tia Graham, the delightful Blog Goddess who helped me turn Cactus Wrangler into a beautiful site, has changed career paths. I had two choices: hire someone else, or finally figure it out on my own. Once I know more about WordPress, I can make decisions about having some help with the finer points of it. I’ve always advocated that we should know the job before we delegate it. I got my chance this week.
So — what do you think? I exported the old blog into a vanilla WordPress account YESTERDAY. Did some tweaks and messing with it last night. Then spent about 2 hours today on it. And voila — my new site is up, the Domain Servers are pointing in the right direction, and life is good.
So, Thank you Tia for your years of support and guidance. Thank you WordPress team for putting an amazing product out there that is intuitive and really quite beautiful. And thanks to the Developers who continually add to the themes and functionality. Especially Jestro who made this theme. Great product!
You know, this is all process. Whether you are moving to a new city or new apartment; looking for a new job or transferring within your current one; deciding to retire; deciding to un-retire; changing the shape of your life and relationships: it is JUST Process. Keep moving one step at a time forward.
Nietszche said, “What does not kill me makes me stronger.”
He has a point. Whatever we work through helps us make it to the next level. Think of it as mental or emotional pushups. Some of life’s challenges are harder than others, but eventually we find ourselves on the other side of them. Then we are ready to help someone else figure out THEIR challenges.
Take a deep breath.
Look for the Lesson and the Blessing.
Then get on with it, get past it, get over it, get around it…. whatever it takes.
Onward and upward!

James – thanks. I like that. The Slingshot Effect. There’s also the Rubber Band Effect … When you try and drag someone with you who is stuck. You pull them along for awhile because they want to make you happy. But eventually they stay put and you get all tangled and battered from either being slung back towards them, OR from having the Rubber Band break and snapping you upside the head!
The founder of our iPEC Coach Training calls it “The Slingshot Effect.” When you pull back on a slingshot what happens? It creates tension and it’s that tension that creates the energy that propels the object in the slingshot forward.
Many people, when they experience tension in their lives, see it as a negative. However, if they are able to alter their perspective, they will see that tension and stress as an opportunity; an opportunity to take their lives to heights they had never imagined possible. It really comes down to choice. Choosing to harness the tension and using it to move forward or choosing to collapse under its pressure and fall backwards in life.
We decide.
Thank you Joanne – welcome to my blog! And thanks for following me on Twitter!

All I can say is “WOW!” A great blog! I’m certain it will be read and
enjoyed by a ton of readers!
Congratulations,
Joanne
Thanks Bonnie! This was a blast. Everyone should have a blog, and WordPress is a piece of cake. Who knew? I put it off because I thought it would take weeks. Now I know.
