Resilience Fundamentals

I love the internet. It’s so easy to find communities of like-minded people, and to uncover gems in our research. Philip Palin has written such a gem in his article on Fundamentals of Resilience in Brief. He quotes from the Tao Te Ching. And this says it all:

Men are born soft and supple; dead, they are stiff and hard. Plants are born tender and pliant; dead, they are brittle and dry. Thus whoever is stiff and inflexible is a disciple of death. Whoever is soft and yielding is a disciple of life. The hard and stiff will be broken. The soft and supple will prevail.

Great thought to ponder. “Soft and Yielding” doesn’t mean we should be weak. It’s about finding our core strengths and, like the bamboo, being able to flow with the strife rather than rigidly fighting against it.

Read the article. You’ll find some great ideas for your teams and for your own personal resilience training.

Enjoy, Beth

Resilience is the crucial skill of the 21st Century. We can bounce back from adversity if we are brave enough to question our habitual ways, redouble our efforts, and reframe our thoughts. If we hold onto our opinions too tightly we will bypass the rich lessons life has to offer. Growth, change, and insight only come through change. Beth, your message is heartfelt and rational. I’ll be back to read more of what you have to say. Thank you!
