Why Visualization Doesn’t Work
This quote from AWAKE2000 on Twitter got me thinking…
“When you visualize, then you materialize. If you’ve been there in the mind you’ll go there in the body” ~ Dr Denis Waitley
Maybe our visualization doesn’t work because we’re always sending static to the brain. We consciously sit down and meditate and visualize peace, prosperity, joy, money, and all that good stuff.
Then we get in our car and visualize running over that idiot who’s blocking two lanes with his 30-mile-an-hour junker. And we fuss and fume over a coworker who has redefined slacking. We come up with nefarious plans to do in all the people who are blocking us. Then we go home and meditate on peace and prosperity again, wondering why it doesn’t work.
I figured it out. I pretended to install an ‘off’ switch on the side of my head. When I start in on all that negative visualization, I just press my temple and say, “Enough!” Not out loud usually, that would startle the people in the aisle at Safeway. I sometimes will say, “I don’t want to think about that right now.” Which – I guess – is different from repression. Works for me.
I am now going to go visualize some dinner for myself.
Have a great night!
Beth
