R U Resilient? 7 ways to tell
I’ve been researching Coping Skills and Resilience for my presentations and articles. Here are the top 7 characteristics that separate those who will bounce back from the current mess, and those who will struggle. See how many of these you can answer “yes” to:
- BELIEF: I know there is a possibility of improving my current situation
- DETACHMENT: I have learned not to personalize outcomes. I am able to walk away from negative people and have discernment about negative messages.
- SUPPORT: I have a safety net in community, family, and friendships.
- VISION: I have a solid and hopeful vision for the future, with an underpinning of clear goals and plans.
- FOCUS: I commit my energy and time towards positive attainment of my goals. I also understand that input = output, and avoid negative input.
- OPENNESS: I am willing to discuss upsets and seek solutions. I am willing to hear and act on those solutions.
- REWARD: I see, offer, and accept rewards for my efforts. I am willing to share with those who help me create the success I seek.
For many years psychologists have found that persons who “see the glass as half full” are more likely to weather the storms life throws at us. Now scientists are able to show a health benefit: if you are positive, your immune system responds better. You are healthier, and you heal faster.
Set aside any skepticism, cynicism, and jaded ideas about the future. Open your mind and heart to the possibilities and opportunities inherent in this crisis. Work on your resilience and coping skills. We all win when you do.
All the best,
Beth

Very nicely said!
Michael
Thanks Michael. I believe we all need a little “open heart” surgery to make it through the next year. Too much negativity and we’ll have self-fulfilling prophecy. After all – in 200 years we will all be dead! So – may as well work on bouncing back now!
Have a blessed Holiday Season,
Beth
Love your 7 characteristics! They are great guidelines for times of stess, but I also see how they could keep you grounded and headed in the right direction every day. Great insight. Thanks!
