Getting Mileage out of Old Shoes – And Abundance

February 18, 2009

Coming out of the Hawaii culture, I believe with all my heart in “what goes around comes around.” When times are crazy and people are operating out of fear, any form of generosity is amplified. And it comes back to you in wonderful and mysterious ways.

I gave away 7 pairs of jeans last summer to a woman who needed them more than I did. Truth be told, they were a little outdated and I’d lost some weight. In the past, I would have held on “just in case my weight comes back.” But she had growing girls and they would be put to good use for years to come.

One Month, yes, ONE MONTH later, I met someone who worked for a jeans company. He noticed I was wearing their brand, and he shipped me — you guessed it — SEVEN pair of jeans, for free! Jeans that fit! Jeans that I LOVE! (Aura Jeans by the Ladies at Wrangler) Now there is an immediate validation of the power of generosity to bless all involved.

Which brings me to your shoes. Yes, those things on your feet. Especially the ones in the closet that are worn more by your house mice than by you. The ones that are a tad out of style, or maybe a little cracked, or you hated them the day after you bought them, but were too ashamed or lazy to take them back. Those shoes.

According to The Green Guide, shoe stores bring in 8 pairs of shoes a year for everyone in the US. Since I only bought one pair last year, some of you are seriously hoarding shoes! It’s time to go a-huntin’ for those shoes you haven’t worn in a year. Give them away! Someone else could use them, and who knows, you might meet a shoe fairy!

This came to mind because of The Green Guide’s article about Soles 4 Shoes. The article Says,

“Finding shoes for the unshod is a task that first electrified Wayne Elsey, founder and CEO of Soles 4 Souls, during the 2004 tsunami, which destroyed villages and lives across Southeast Asia. From his position as an executive in the shoe industry, he coordinated an effort to ship hundreds of thousands of shoes to those who lost their belongings.”

Wayne’s website is giveshoes.org Check out the article at The Green Guide, check out the shoe website, and do something good today. You could get with your association or church group and make a project out of it. It would be a great way to teach kids in a school classroom about giving and sharing. It’s a wonderful way to open space in your life and your closet for abundance.

As my Grandma used to say, ” You can’t pour wine into a full cup!”

So empty your cup because you can. Empty your cup and you might receive more blessings. Share. Give. Be generous in a time filled with fear, and watch your blessings multiply.

Take care of yourselves,

The world needs healthy people right now.

We need YOU to be healthy.

Blessings,

Beth
