The Opportunity Before Us
When all goes to hell in a handbasket, we have the opportunity to fall apart, or to pick ourselves up and go find a new way to do things. That opportunity lies before us right now, in this instant, in this time, in this moment.
Jim Rohn says one of the keys to changing ourselves is disgust. Who knew disgust could be a plus? We become disgusted with our own weight, with the impact of smoking or drinking on our health, with the way bureaucrats or politicians are running things… and then, often only then, we take action.
We can run with the doubters and the obstructionists who don’t want success for the current administration… ignoring that it’s akin to chopping off the tree limb holding you up. We can dig our heads into the sand and hope it all goes away. OR, we can say, “OK. What we did didn’t work. Which parts DID work? How can we do what worked in a better way? How can we fix what didn’t work? What’s the opportunity here?”
I notice I’m paying closer attention to recurring charges. I’m looking for better ways to buy locally. I’m rethinking my business and my social life in ways that are healthier, more focused, and make me happier. I’m finding ways to collaborate with people. I’m also removing unnecessary and unproductive meetings from my plate.
I’ve been spending more time in meditation. Working on my own sense of peace and prosperity in a wider sense. I know if I don’t feel at peace, I can’t very well write and speak about it.
The US has been careening down a mountain road in an out of control bus. The recent events were large warning signs along side the road. Downshifting, stepping on the brakes, re-evaluating our situation, and making better choices should be a given. We didn’t crash… yet. So the opportunity from my little window looks pretty good. I’m still alive and kickin’, I can DO something about this.
What will YOU do today?
What opportunity will YOU find?
Who can you collaborate with?
You’re still alive, you’re reading this. So the possibilities and the opportunities are endless.
Go get’em!
Cheers,
Beth

Great post, Beth. I get a lot out of meditation, but it is hard to stay in the habit. If you enjoy it and get benefits from it, remember to keep it up. Consistency is so important, and your success will build on itself.
When you say “careening down a mountain road”…perhaps that it is a good thing! It is a chance for us all to get limber, test our ability to go FAST, and force us to shed unneeded weight.
When people say the economy is “good” or “bad”, I always ask, “For whom?” There are always winners and losers. Whether the Dow is up or down, there are opportunities, successes, pitfalls, and failures all around us.
Keep sharing the great thoughts!
