Happy Thanksgiving!
I’m just sitting here enjoying my yard, waiting for the pies to finish baking, and watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. It’s a beautiful day in Phoenix, and it looks pretty balmy in New York City, too.
I’ve always loved the Thanksgiving Day parade. Don’t know why. Maybe it gave a little South Dakota girl hope that there was some excitement outside that tiny town. And everyone always looks like they’re having a grand ol’ time.
This is a day I am thankful for all I have and don’t have. It’s great to sit on my lanai and look out at my little yard. The Nectarine tree is a confused mess, trying to lose old leaves, grow new ones, and bursting in to flowers here and there. The weather’s been a little screwy. So it isn’t sure what season it is.
But the birds don’t mind. They’re happily chattering in the tree, vying for seats on the bird feeder.
The hummingbird wars continue. Who knew those little things were so territorial? I have at least 7 different ones (that I can identify) visiting. I can tell which are the ‘owners’ of the hummingbird feeder and which are the poachers. The owners rest on the perch. The poachers take hit and run swipes at the nectar.
I’ve seen a few hawks circling lately. That means the Chihuahuas don’t get to go outside unsupervised. That’s a flight I wouldn’t want either of my little ones to take. It IS an impressive bird, though.
I’m grateful for good health, great friends, loving family, and clients that have allowed me into their worlds for a time. I’m grateful for the friends and clients I haven’t met yet, but will in the months to come. I’m grateful that I didn’t go anywhere this week (air traffic looks a little dicey!) And I am grateful for friends close by that invited me instead.
Here’s wishing you a wonderful day of Thanks. If you are reading this outside the US, take this day to be thankful anyway. It’s a wonderful tradition that reminds us that while our minds may be programmed differently, our hearts beat the same way. We all long for attachments of one kind or another. We all want to find our own peace.
Blessings to you and yours,
Aloha,
Beth
