Happy “Make a Difference Day!”
What matters most in life isn’t the car we drive, the house we live in, even our ‘jobs.’ We find this out when houses burn down, cars crash, and our health begins to go. You know this. You hear it at every funeral. No one talks about what a great job Gus did with his in-basket. No one talks about what a beautiful car Maggie drove.
Instead, they talk about one thing: “He made a huge difference in my life.” or “She was a great boss!” and “He was so generous with his time. He mentored me and taught me so much.” “She believed in me more than I did.”
That’s what today is about. It’s a celebration of our better selves. It’s a recognition that, deep down, we all need each other. We need to be beloved by someone. We need to know that we matter. And … we are all better human beings when we reach out and support someone else.
In recognition of this great day, a group of bloggers got together and decided that we would kick off “Make a Difference Day” by holding The World’s Biggest Blogging Party. Each of us is supporting an organization that makes a huge difference in the world. We are blogging about the organizations -their success stories, their needs, and what makes them special. We are also inviting you to donate to the groups that appeal to your sense of community. My special group is PACC911 — the Phoenix Animal Care Coalition.
Today is a big day for PACC911, and I’m on my way down to the Franciscan Retreat center to support them. I’ll be reporting in on their activities later this afternoon. You can join in if you are reading this in Phoenix today. They are meeting from 10am-4pm today and tomorrow (October 27-28) for the Blessing of the Animals and the Pet Adopt-a-thon.
Address: 5802 E. Lincoln Drive, Paradise Valley, AZ
I love this organization because they’ve made it easy to find help for any kind of animal in Arizona. Whether you want to adopt a Dalmation or a Chihuahua, they’ve got it. If you need help rescuing a horse or a Desert Turtle, they know where to direct you. Finally – an organization that pulls it all together.
To find out if your favorite animal group belongs, check PACC911′s Partner List.
Now, I mentioned I’m on my way to the Animal Blessing. I’ll check back with you this evening and tell you about it. Maybe I’ll see you there!
