Adopt-a-thon and Pet Blessing Report

October 27, 2007

Joyce and Franci

Joyce proudly shows off Franci, her brand new adopted puppy.

The PACC911 event today at the Franciscan Renewal Center was wonderful. There were tents everywhere, and the line for pet blessings wound through the exhibits and rescue tents. I decided not to bring my feisty little Chihuahuas for the blessing. My five-pound little Xena would be taking on every big dog she saw. So I showed the Monk the picture on my camera of my two little ones, and he blessed the camera! How cool is that.

Funny thing, my other dog, Lezard, was a little under the weather when I left the house. He was romping around like a puppy when I got home! I think the blessing worked!

While I was there today, MC and “Top Dog” Eileen Proctor kept announcing one more dog or cat had been adopted. There were so many sweet animals that just broke my heart. One Chihuahua picked me out of the crowd and climbed right out of his pen and into my arms. If my Chi’s weren’t so protective of me, I would have had a third dog at home today!

There was also a horse rescue group there. They had a beautiful white mare under the tent. Since some people can’t fall in love with a horse and bring it home, Dream Chasers also offers the ability to sponsor a horse. You can help pay for its feed and board, and feel good about supporting a worthy organization.

Dreamchasers is the Premarin Mares rescue Group. Over a million mares and their offspring have been killed by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals in the name of making (not very effective in my opinion) medicine for women to keep from having hot flashes. Glad I opted for evening primrose oil and other natural cures for my menopause. I had no problem looking that beautiful mare in the eye.

Horse Rescue, Chihuahua Rescue, Cattle Dog Rescue, Beagle Rescue… you name it. They were all there. Go here for a list of all the groups in the Valley who help our critters in need.

At any rate – if you are in Phoenix, the Adopt-a-thon and Pet Blessing are tomorrow again from 10am-4pm at the Franciscan Renewal center in the 5800 block of Lincoln in Scottsdale.

If you can’t be there, click on the links and donate! You’ll be glad you did!

Cheers,

Beth
