Cinnamon: A Pom rescued by PACC911
She was found wandering the Kierland Shopping complex just off Scottsdale Road. Shopkeepers saw a couple in a sleek black car toss her out like she was trash. Dazed and confused, she eagerly went up to the first person who called out to her. Like all dogs, her first instincts were to wag her tail and expect love from everyone. A trait we humans could learn from.
She was ragged. Her coat matted, her ribs sticking out under the thinning coat. Yet, every time someone reached out to her with love, she was ready to accept it.
She’s a Pomeranian, probably 6 or 7 years old. She had obviously given birth many times. Our hearts sunk at the thought of this sweet little red-haired lady being used over and over in a puppy mill until her energy gave out. We don’t know her history, but we can only guess from the signs.
The Security Guard at Kierland was summoned over. He immediately fell in love with the Pom and brought her home until they could find the owners. Six months passed and no owners showed up. It became apparent that he and his little family could not give this dog the love and attention she required.
So they called me. Did I know of anyone who could adopt this sweet dog? No medical check had been done on the dog, and they couldn’t afford to do anything. I took her in for a day, and my Chihuahas were just not interested in adding to the pack. So, I called a different “pack” – I called PACC911.
The Phoenix Animal Care Coalition: PACC911 has coordinated all the rescue operations in Phoenix: dog, cat, horse, reptile, large animals and small – you name it. Everyone works together to insure that animals are given humane treatment.
They were right on it. Within 24 hours, a woman knocked on my door and Cinnamon was placed in foster care. They ran her through a battery of medical checkups, gave her shots, and found her a home. The last I heard, she’s romping happily in her new back yard, figuring out where she belongs in the pecking order of her new pack.
I wish I knew her history. I wish I could talk to the people who dumped her and give them a piece of my mind. I wish I could help people understand that the best gifts they can give their dogs are a microchip and either a spaying or neutering.
There are thousands of unwanted animals in our area alone. If you know of one, call the right 911 – PACC911. If you are looking to adopt a new pet, call the right 911 – PACC911. If you suspect abuse, know of an animal in need, call the right 911 – PACC911.
You’ll sleep better tonight.
