Perfect Pitch and Amazing Cuteness: Sunday Musings

September 23, 2007

I’ve often wondered if I could be taught to sing in perfect pitch. Speaking I can do, singing has eluded me. I’ve taken lessons, and mercifully, none of my music teachers caused me bodily harm. But they were unanimously relieved when I decided to focus instead on speaking.

I have found my answer: perfect pitch is inborn – not learned. It’s like rhythm: you’ve got it or you don’t. You can be taught to do a pretty good imitation, but a naturally flowing pitch just is.

And here, on YouTube is proof. Watch this sweet, tiny, six-year-old girl WOW Simon and the other two judges. It will knock your socks off. Promise.

Have a great week,

Beth
