Banner the Wonder Dog makes it to YouTube!
The story about Southwest Airlines saving Banner’s life just keeps getting better. Numerous blogs have picked up the story, email forwards continue to send it around, and members of the National Speakers Association are just getting back from vacation and hearing about it for the first time – so it has picked up speed once more.
And just a few days ago, Terry Brock, one of the great internet marketing gurus in NSA decided it was time to just get it up on YouTube. So if you’ve wondered what this great guide dog looks like, here’s the story live!
Besides being a heartwarming story, this is a great story about teamwork. Larry Colbert and I were talking today about that whole team concept. We realized that a lot of people talk a good story, but someone who is blind like Larry, really has to have a team, even if the team is just him and his guide dog.
When Banner was at the vet hospital and Larry had to continue on to his Las Vegas meeting without his faithful teammate, a whole lot of people stepped in to be part of his team. Larry says he became an instant celebrity on Southwest. Each employee along the way greeted him and asked how Banner was. Each of them kept an eye on Larry, realizing he didn’t usually travel only with his white cane.
So, beyond this story making you feel good, let it make you think. Who is on your team? Who is there to pick up the slack when your main teammates are down for the count? Who do you lean on, and who leans on you? If you are playing the Lone Ranger game, might be time to start gathering a team around you.
Life is more fun when you have teammates.
